Even on the canals, going up or down at a lock has always been a lengthy and arduous process of opening and closing sluices and gates to harness the energy of falling water. Hard work is built in. It&#8217;s good that new technologies are making regenerative braking easier to do, saving some of the energy of the downhills to use on the uphills.<\/p>\n<p>In Sunday&#8217;s lectionary, the first Christians are having their first major disagreement &#8211; about accepting Gentiles. Peter speaks to the conservative faction and they change their minds, and the church moves on to greater things.
