{"id":2691,"date":"2021-07-19T11:49:52","date_gmt":"2021-07-19T10:49:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bobjanet.org.uk\/bobsblog\/?p=2691"},"modified":"2021-07-19T11:54:49","modified_gmt":"2021-07-19T10:54:49","slug":"bathshebagate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bobjanet.org.uk\/bobsblog\/2021\/07\/19\/bathshebagate\/","title":{"rendered":"Bathshebagate"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In next <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/lectionary.library.vanderbilt.edu\/texts.php?id=212\" target=\"_blank\">Sunday&#8217;s Lectionary<\/a>, we read of the way King David pulled strings to try and cover up the fact that he got a married woman pregnant. In the end he sends her husband back to the front line to be killed. Each dark deed breeds a darker one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I don&#8217;t know what message we&#8217;re supposed to get from this &#8211; at least in the end David was repentant and acknowledged God&#8217;s way and is a hero in that sense. Maybe we&#8217;re supposed to admire that he was a bit of a jack-the-lad. He&#8217;s not the kind of hero I could ever identify with.
